Restaurant Review: El-Vaquero South American dining

We had traveled past ‘El Vaquero’ on Whetstone High Road many times and had commented that “we would like to eat there”.  We were not sure of the cuisine but as it is situated in a domineering white building with a large n20 sign above it – it was hard to miss and it oozed appeal. We were also aware of an “all you can eat” BBQ restaurant in the area and one impromptu evening we visited the restaurant and linked the two together.

Far from an “all you can eat” BBQ, El-Vaquero brings you a unique authentic South American dining experience*. On arrival you turn the light on your table green to signify that you are ready to eat. Trained Passadors (cowboy hats ‘n’ all) then come to your table with an array of perfectly cooked meat on skewers… and they do not stop until you turn your light red! For around £30.00 you can eat as much meat as you can squeeze in as well as helping yourself to a buffet boasting a variety of hot dishes and cold fresh salads. A nice surprise was the grilled pineapple which finished off the meal beautiful. Here is a list of what we munched through:

  • Chicken in garlic and paprika
  • Chicken Teriyaki
  • Chicken Heart
  • Brazilian Steak (Picanha)
  • Serlion Steak
  • Rump Tail (Australian)
  • Turkey in cajun sauce
  • Chicken drumstick
  • Lamb Sausage
  • Beef Sausage
  • Chicken breast in lemon and mustard
  • Leg of Lamb
  • South African beef sausage
  • Hot Pineapple

It is worth a trip if you have a large appetite – you really do get your moneys worth: 1105 High Road, Whetstone, London, N20 0PT
